We’re looking for a highly motivated Process Development & Scale-Up Engineer to support the scale-up of our proprietary materials from lab-scale synthesis to pilot and commercial-scale production. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role at the intersection of materials science, chemical engineering, and process innovation.
You will work closely with R&D, engineering consultants, equipment vendors, and operations teams to develop robust, efficient, and safe processes. From setting up pilot lines to supporting full-scale production, you’ll be an integral part of our journey from concept to commercialisation.
What You’ll Do
Phase 1: Lab & Pilot Setup
- Assist in setting up lab-scale processes, including workflows, safety protocols, and vendor coordination
- Support design and commissioning of pilot-scale systems (equipment selection, plant layout, installation)
- Coordinate and execute experiments for materials synthesis, testing, and characterisation
- Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory norms
- Maintain detailed technical documentation and contribute to IP generation
Phase 2: Process Scale-Up & Optimisation
- Design, conduct, and analyse experiments to scale up processes from lab to pilot plant
- Optimise process parameters for quality, consistency, and throughput
- Identify and resolve issues related to yield, process stability, and energy efficiency
- Document SOPs and ensure knowledge transfer to operations teams
- Contribute to cross-functional problem-solving and quality benchmarking
Phase 3: Production Readiness
- Collaborate with the Plant Operations team to transfer processes to the commercial line
- Train production and quality personnel on process operations
- Provide technical inputs for equipment design improvements and vendor selection
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including automation and cost optimisation
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.Tech/M.E. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Ceramics, Polymers, Nanotech, or related fields
- M.Sc. in related disciplines with strong lab or industrial research experience may also apply
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in chemical/process development, pilot plants, or materials manufacturing
- PhD holders in relevant fields will be considered with adjusted experience
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Prior experience with pilot plant setup, lab-to-plant scale-up, or process design
- Hands-on with solvent handling, high-pressure systems, thermal utilities, or chemical reactors
- Familiarity with CAD tools, process modelling, or prototyping is a strong plus
- Strong grasp of safety protocols and environmental compliance in industrial setups
- Excellent documentation, data management, and analytical skills
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments
