About the Role:

We’re looking for a hands-on Fire & Safety Officer with 2–3 years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, distillery, or similar hazardous process industries. This role is execution-focused and operational. You will be responsible for implementing safety systems, managing hazardous chemical handling procedures (including denatured alcohol), ensuring statutory compliance, and driving a strong safety culture within a growing manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do
1. Hazardous Chemical Handling & Process Safety

  • Develop and implement SOPs for safe loading, unloading, storage, and transfer of hazardous chemicals, including denatured alcohol
  • Supervise and monitor chemical handling operations to ensure compliance with safety norms
  • Develop safety guidelines for operators working with flammable solvents and pressure equipment
  • Conduct job safety analysis (JSA) and risk assessments for critical activities

2. Inventory Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of Denatured Alcohol (DNA) inventory
  • Prepare compliance-related reports and documentation for regulatory authorities
  • Ensure proper documentation of storage, consumption, and movement of hazardous chemicals
  • Coordinate with authorities for inspections, renewals, and approvals related to fire and hazardous chemical compliance

3. Fire Safety Systems & Emergency Preparedness

  • Ensure proper functioning and periodic maintenance of fire safety systems, including:
    • Hydrant networks
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Foam systems
    • Detection and alarm systems
  • Conduct periodic inspections and testing of fire protection equipment
  • Support the development and implementation of the On-Site Emergency Plan
  • Conduct mock drills and emergency response exercises

4. Shop Floor Safety & PPE Management

  • Develop and implement safety guidelines for shop-floor operators and contractors
  • Manage PPE inventory, issuance, and compliance monitoring
  • Ensure proper usage of PPE in hazardous zones

5. Training, Audits & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct safety inductions and refresher training programs
  • Carry out internal safety inspections and audits
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Maintain safety records and prepare periodic reports for management

 

Who You Are – 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Fire & Safety / Industrial Safety / Engineering
  • Mandatory Fire & Safety certification from a recognised institute
  • 2–3 years of experience in:
    • Chemical manufacturing
    • Petrochemical plants
    • Distilleries
    • Hydrocarbon or solvent-handling industries

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience handling flammable liquids such as ethanol or denatured alcohol
  • Working knowledge of compliance with the Fire Department and State Factory Rules
  • Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and shop-floor safety practices
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently in a startup/pilot plant environment
